No single use of a punctuation mark has caused more bloodshed and strife than the serial comma, which, the British insist, often bearing arms, is actually called the Oxford comma. Meanwhile, Chicago-style copyeditors say serial commas are essential. AP-style copyeditors say "They are not!" "They are too!" insist the CMOS folk, and so on until it gets loud and the police are called in.
